1 – QUEER TRAVEL: No longer a trend but a commercial reality

Jenny Southan, creator of Volt and author of the international report “The Future of Queer Travel”: “Over the past ten years, the queer travel market has grown enormously – when travel was at its peak before the pandemic, queer people’s travel spending reached $218 billion worldwide. By 2030, experts predict that queer travellers’ spending could reach $568.5 billion.

“Why? Firstly, queer travellers are more adventurous and eager to travel than ever. Secondly, in many cases, they have higher disposable incomes. And thirdly, the population of people identifying as queer is increasing. In 2021, a major UK census revealed that 6.9% of Gen Z identified as LGB+, compared to 3.5% of Millennials and 1.6% of Boomers.

“For the travel industry, this is a clear indication of distinct market opportunities, particularly among those under 45 years old. It’s also an urgent call for better understanding and appreciation of this growing and diverse consumer group. We firmly believe in travel as the ultimate expression of freedom and as a unifying force that brings people closer together.”

2 – TRIPADVISOR launches an AI-guided TRAVEL-PLANNING tool

Tripadvisor has introduced a tool capable of generating travel itineraries powered by artificial intelligence that aims to redefine how travellers plan, share, and book trips.

The new itinerary generator, currently in “beta”, uses OpenAI’s generative artificial intelligence to create personalised day-by-day travel plans based on the destination, dates, travel group, and interests input by the user. It draws from Tripadvisor‘s extensive database, comprising over a billion reviews and opinions, to formulate reliable and personalised recommendations for each trip, focusing on generating experiences, attractions, and dining suggestions.

Within seconds of the request, users receive a complete multi-day itinerary to view, save, edit, and share. The itineraries include personalised recommendations for experiences, attractions, restaurants, and other trip details, based on content from the Tripadvisor community, while users can continue to engage with reviews, opinions, photos, and more as they finalise their plans.

The AI feature is currently available only in the United States through desktop and mobile web, but the company plans to extend availability to other markets and its apps.
The applications in terms of tourism promotion and in terms of modifying the promotional opportunities of a facility, hotel or attraction within the portal itself are evident. Ad Maiora!
